Yakuza: Why Everybody Loves Goro Majima
8. He's Hilarious
If there’s one thing fans of the game series can agree on it’s the fact that Majima is really really funny. He’s got fantastic dialogue complete with one liners and plenty of slang (due to his Kansai accent), as well as tons of quotable moments. He can be blunt to the point where you have to take a minute to register what he’s just said. With some of his comments being so out of the blue funny that you need to take a break to laugh and double check he actually just said that.
The games can be quite serious at times, especially if you focus on the main story as opposed to the side quests, and having Majima’s dialogue to break it up makes the game much more enjoyable. Not only that but half of the things he does are hilarious, from his dancing to his outfits. The ridiculous ways he challenges Kiryu to fight or bowl or play with toy racing cars (Majima will do pretty much anything as long as he can challenge Kiryu) never fail to get a laugh.
It’s good to have these moments in a game that can be as long as those in the Yakuza series, and the fact that Majima is the one who provides these moments makes him a favourite character for a lot of players. Like him or not, the Yakuza games wouldn’t be as fun without some hilarious Majima moments.
