10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 1990s

1. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

If there was one video for one song from one band that could summarise the 90s, it would be this one.

September 24th 1991. Nirvana release their second studio album Nevermind; a blissfully bleak collection of songs that captures the disenfranchised youth of America to a tee.

The album was home to the song Smells Like Teen Spirit, which got a single release two weeks earlier. It also got its own video; a video that would go down as one of the greatest in music history.

The dingy high school setting, the hoard of moshing teenager, the goddamn janitor! Everything about this music captured the rebellious nature of being young in the early 90s and packed just as much of a punch as the song itself.

Smells Like Teen Spirit and its video live on today as symbols of the time in which they were made. It consistently ranks amongst the greatest music videos ever made and is probably the only Nirvana promo a lot of people have actually seen.

The 1990s was a great time to be a fan of rock music videos and Smells Like Teen Spirit is the best of a very strong bunch.
