Every now and then you'll find an athlete that's completely honest about being a mercenary, playing professional sports solely for the money and a chance to win. NFL cornerback Darrelle Revis is one of those athletes, and at one point was considered to be the best at his position.

Revis had been drafted by the New York Jets with the 14th overall selection in 2007, spending six seasons with the team and being named to four Pro Bowl rosters. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would make a big trade offer for Revis following the 2012 season, giving the Jets a first round and a third round draft selection. Revis had a solid season with Tampa Bay, but was released due to a change in defensive schemes the team believed he wouldn't fit.

Revis hit the open market in 2014, and decided to take the highest bid out there. It just so happened that the offer came from the Jets' biggest rival, the New England Patriots. Heading to New England on a one-year contract worth $12 million prompted some loud jeers from Jets fans when the two clashed later in the year.

An unnamed member of the Jets organization told a reporter that, "Jets fans look at (Revis) as Benedict Arnold." There were rumors that Revis wanted to return to New York, but didn't receive an offer, which is why he signed with the team's rival. Revis would, however, end up signing with the Jets once again in 2015, spending two seasons in New York for his second stint with the team.
