The Spanish boast one of the best and brightest pools of talent of any national side, so it's not too surprising to see an exceptional player like Marcos Alonso miss out to the likes of Barcelona's Jordi Alba and Real Madrid's Nacho, but he might have thought he'd done enough to earn a call-up after a really impressive domestic season with Chelsea.

Ever since arriving in England from Fiorentina, 27-year-old Alonso has proven himself to be one of the most efficient and exciting attacking full backs in Europe, scoring 6 league goals in his first season and 7 in his second. In spite of this, he's only earned a single cap for Spain, playing 10 minutes in a game against Argentina earlier this year.

Spain's head coach, Julen Lopetegui, chose to go with the more experienced Nacho Monreal of Arsenal in Alonso's place, and Spain have more than enough talent all over the pitch to not really miss the Chelsea man. It just shows how good their squad is that a player of his talent hasn't been selected.
