Perfection is almost impossible to attain in any sport, no one has shot 18 under par on a golf course for example. The closest you can come to perfection in boxing is to retire undefeated and that is exactly what Rocky Marciano did.

Born in Massachusetts in 1923, the 'Rock from Brockton' turned pro in 1948 after a somewhat average amateur career (8-4) and earned his title shot in 1952 when he fought reigning champ Jersey Joe Walcott. He defended his title six times against big names like Roland La Starza and Ezzard Charles and retired, aged 32, in 1956.

Critics will say he didn't fight top quality fighters (despite retiring the great Joe Louis in Joe's comeback fight) but he fought everyone who was around and always dug deep to pull out victory after victory to become the only heavyweight in history to retire undefeated.
