10 Best Tennis Comebacks Of All Time
7. Murray Def Verdasco - 2013 Wimbledon
Remember Murray early on? He was shy, had
an inability to channel aggression, made umpteen unforced errors, and was consistently
patchy in any given match. Well, this may well have been the turn around and
the birth of the new Andy Murray.
In a match that eventually saw Murray become an assertive and commanding figure on court, it was the Spaniard who took the initiative in the earlier sets. the early sets actually showcased anything but. On his day, the Spaniard is one of the greatest to step on court. He can close down his opponents, read serves like no other and his ability for base line play is up there with Nadal and Djokovic. This is exactly what happened to the future two time Wimbledon Champ and Two Time Olympic Gold Medalist.
Verdasco dominated the first two sets with a far more powerful game than Murray and in fact apart from the last five minutes of the match Verdasco was leading the Brit .Fernando Verdasco was playing some of his best tennis and still to this day is a force to be reckoned with. Murray may not have been able to out power him but he displayed a remarkable show of will and determination which saw him put the match back from the jaws of defeat, no part helped by having Ivan Lendl in his corner.
There is still a feel of dread whenever we hear the name
Verdasco.
Andy Murray (GBR) Beats Fernando Verdasco (SPA) 4-6, 3-6, 6-1,6-4, 7-5.
