10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Liverpool Transfer History

8. Carlton Cole

Roy Hodgson's time at Liverpool was one of the worst performances by a manager in the history of the game. Not only did he have them hovering above the relegation zone at Christmas, but he bought in some of the worst players ever to don a Reds shirt. Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen, Joe Cole; the list goes on. Top of the current England manager's wish list- yes, I still can't believe he is in charge of the national team either- was Carlton Cole, West Ham's Emile Heskey-esque striker, who was seen as someone who could add quality up top and provide stiff competition for Fernando Torres. Fortunately for Liverpool, a £10m deal for the Englishman fell through at the eleventh hour, and Reds worldwide were all able to breathe a huge sigh of relief. In the four years since then Cole has remained at Upton Park, scoring 34 goals in 145 appearances. Over the last two seasons he has found the back of the net just eight times.
