10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Liverpool Transfer History
9. Gaston Ramirez
For all the brilliant work Rodgers has done at Anfield over the last two years, it's fair to say he made some questionable moves in the 2012 summer transfer window. Gaston Ramirez, like Dempsey, was another player the northern Irishman was extremely keen on bringing to Anfield. The then 21-year-old was seen as a stylish young playmaker who could open up attacks and dictate the pace of games, and he had enjoyed an impressive spell at Bologna in Serie A between 2010 and 2012. Liverpool spent almost the whole summer monitoring his availability, as did Spurs, but it was Southampton who surprisingly snapped up the Uruguayan- Rodgers also felt he would link up well with his fellow countryman Luis Suarez- for a reported £12m. Ramirez struggled for adjust to life in the Premier League from day one, however, with his lack of pace and weak physical presence simply not cut out for the hustle and bustle of Europe's most competitive league. He saw himself in and out of the Saints' side, making sporadic appearances from the bench and accumulating 48 forgettable appearances in two seasons at the club. He is still at St Mary's, but he doesn't appear to be part of new boss Ronald Koeman's plans. He would've been average at best had he joined the Reds.
