2. Aaron Hernandez Murder Trial

The Aaron Hernandez murder trial has been a national news frenzy, culminating in the former-Patriots tight end being led away to a life in prison without parole. In 2013, he was charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd - the boyfriend of Hernandez' then-future sister-in-law - and was subsequently released by the Patriots, while in 2015, he was finally convicted of the crime. Hernandez is also awaiting trial for the murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado a year earlier, while he was still playing in the NFL, with the case said to be even stronger than the one which has landed him in a jail cell, a matter of minutes away from where he was once adored by the fans at Gillette Stadium.
