10 Biggest Prospects On The WTA Tour
4. Donna Vekic
As of April 2016, Donna Vekic is only placed three places higher than Osaka in the world rankings and ironically lost to the Japanese at the Australian Open but we believe that she is better equipped to become a major player in the sport.
Vekic has been on the radar ever since making the final of a WTA event at the age of 16 and it is something that has been achieved every year since she has been a professional. The Croatian has only emerged victorious on one occasion but her career trajectory is on the same level as players who have gone on to become a force in the sport.
There may be a slight concern that she has only won five of her 16 matches at Grand-Slam level but playing at that level from such an early age can only benefit Vekic going forward.
After a slow start to 2016, she has turned her form around by securing valuable ranking points in Doha and on the American hard-court swing in March but with a third-round place at last year's Roland Garros to defend in May, she cannot afford to go off the boil if she is to move close to her career-high ranking of 62.
