10 Biggest UFC Main Event Flops

6. Clay Guida vs. Gray Maynard (UFC on FX 4)

Clay Maynard Lightweight fighter Clay Guida was in the midst of a good run in 2012, popular among fans for his high octane style and wild hair. His wars with Roger Huerta, Diego Sanchez and Benson Henderson still rank as some of UFC's most exciting fights. You could pretty much take it to the bank that anytime the Captain Caveman look-alike was in the octagon you were going to be entertained. Until he met Gray Maynard. One of the top contenders to the LW title, "The Bully" had been on quite an impressive streak, going 10-0-1 with 1 no contest before he suffered a knockout at the hands of then-champion Frankie Edgar in the rematch from their draw 10 months prior. Decent hands, good head movement and excellent wrestling made Maynard a dangerous obstacle to place in anyone's path, and when the fight with Guida was inked, fans expected another thriller. Instead we got a fight so bad that Dana White couldn't hold his disgust back enough to not publicly rail against it, saying "This isn't f*ckin' 'Dancing With the Stars.' You can't win a fight by running around in circles €“ that's not how fights are won." "The Carpenter" employed his dizzying speed and excellent cardio to bounce around the cage like a rubber powerball, avoiding Gray at all costs. It got so bad that he was warned by the referee for being passive. Maynard was clearly frustrated with Guida's unwillingness to engage but forged ahead trying to connect. Perhaps most baffling was the fact that the judges rendered the fight a split decision, when everyone in the arena, the company and the Earth at large saw an obvious Maynard victory.
