10 Biggest Unsung Heroes In Rangers History

5. Claudio Reyna

When a lot of younger Rangers fans think of North American players at Ibrox, names like Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice Edu are likely to come up. Even though those players were decent, Claudio Reyna must surely rank as the best footballer from the USA to ever lace up a pair of boots at Ibrox Stadium and pull on the infamous blue shirt. A tenacious midfielder, Reyna was fantastic. Signed from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, Rangers also had to fork out money to Wolfsburg. The latter club had loaned the American, and thus the Gers paid money to both clubs to secure his services. It was a confusing transaction, albeit once which proved well worth it. Reyna may have only scored 10 goals during his 2-year stay, but his work rate was second to none. Sprinting around the pitch as if he owned it, Claudio scored a memorable goal to put Rangers 2-0 up against Parma in a Champions League qualifier in 1999. In many ways, it was the strike which earned the club a group stage berth, and the joy was evident on the player's face. Tiger-like and lightning quick, Reyna never shirked a tackle. He's the type of midfielder clubs would pay big money for nowadays.
