10 Coolest Clubs In World Football

Portland is a hipster Mecca. There’s even a successful TV show about how hipster the city is written by one of the members of Sleater-Kinney. But the only thing Portlanders love move than new popups and a Tarkovsky film marathon is their football team.

The Timbers have never failed to sell out a home game in their entire history and part of that is due to the distinctly European flavour of their games; full of scarves, smoke bombs and flares. A Timbers game could easily be mistaken for one taking place in Greece or Turkey.

But their matches come with a significant dollop of Portlandish behaviour, from the tofu burgers to the lumberjack mascot replete with chainsaw and beard, it’s evidently clear what city this team represents.

Every goal scorer gets a freshly cut wooden cookie handed to them at the end of the match and the club plants a new tree for every one they give out. It’s entirely hipster, but really, who cares.

Sometime Brummie with a love for tea, tequila and football teams that don't win a lot of games. Still don't really understand apostrophes.
