Sergei Rebrov signed for Spurs for what was then a club record fee of £11 million - joining from Dynamo Kiev in his homeland. Having formed one of the deadliest strike duos in Europe for Kiev, alongside Andrei Shevchenko, Rebrov was viewed as a fantastic signing who would set the Premier League - but how wrong that view would turn out to be. Like Shevchenko - who was, of course, a far superior player - Rebrov found the Premier League to be hard work. He played 59 games in the Premier League for Spurs, 37 of which were from the start, but he only managed a pitiful ten league goals. His time at White Hart Lane saw him twice shipped out on loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce and he would go on to sign for Spurs Premier League rivals West Ham United, for free, in 2004 (he made very little impact there either).
