10 Footballers Who Moved To China Before It Was Cool
9. Nicolas Anelka (Shanghai Shenhua, 2012-2013)
Similarly to Drogba, Nicolas Anelka left Chelsea in the summer of 2012 following their Champions League victory. He also signed for the same club - Shanghai Shenhua - turning down French giants and former club PSG in the process. Anelka's spell was just as short and far less successful than Drogba's, with the striker managing just three goals in 22 appearances. He also briefly held a coaching role with the club, before he was loaned out to Juventus in January 2013. He left the club at the end of the season - heading back to England to sign for West Bromwich Albion.
