10 Footballers You Totally Forgot Played For England

8. Nathaniel Chalobah

Nathaniel Chalobah is yet another whose time at Chelsea was dominated by loan spell after loan spell. The Sierra-Leone born midfielder was sent away from Stamford Bridge six times between 2010 and 2016, before finally breaking into the first team in the 2016-17 season. Ten Premier League appearances later, Chalobah was sold to Watford, where he spent the 2012-13 season with some success.

Things didn't go quite as planned however, as the newest Hornet missed all but six games of the Premier League season thanks to a serious knee injury. The following season, Chalobah appeared just seven times in the league, struggling to break up the solid partnership of Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Despite his struggles with his new team, the Watford midfielder made his England debut in October 2018, coming on for Harry Winks in the 91st minute against Spain - a substitution purely made to take a few seconds off the clock.

Having Gareth Southgate worked to Chalobah's advantage here, as he had played under the England manager a lot at youth level. Ever since he was appointed manager, Southgate has made a point of giving youngsters a chance, but it seems that with so many pushing for a call up in midfield, Chalobah's opportunity may have come and gone.
