10 Former Players Spurs Could Do With Now

3. Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson is showing his former employers exactly what they are missing this season, having proven to be the stand-out performer for Swansea City thus far this campaign. Having netted the winner against Manchester United on the opening day of the season, the Icelandic midfielder began the season as he meant to carry on, assisting seven goals before bagging his second of the season in November - a ferocious 25 yard free-kick against Arsenal. Being directly involved in nine goals during his first 12 games for his new club is mightily impressive, considering his lack of impetus during the White Hart Lane outfit last season. There were no assists in the white of Spurs for the Icelandic playmaker last term, and just five goals to show for his 25 league appearances. So it begs the question - why on earth would Spurs want him back? The philosophies of both Garry Monk and Mauricio Pochettino are not so dissimilar, with both the Swansea and Spurs coach adopting an expansive, high-pressing game. While Sigurdsson found it hard to impress during the turmoil of last campaign, one would imagine he would slot in perfectly into Pochettino€™s starting XI, possibly taking the place of the inconsistent Erik Lamela or deputising for Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen.
