Originally a winger, Wise was moved into the centre of midfield, a role he would hold with little dispute. The English international was an aggressive and determined player, with his short stature no indication to his style of play. His raw style of tackling seen him contesting for the ball, whether there was risk to the opposite player or not. More often than not, Wise would be subject to criticism of his lack of regard for any player not bearing the Chelsea emblem. Wise made more enemies than friends during his time at the Bridge, not least Nicky Butt, who suffered a flying collision during a game between Chelsea and Manchester United. The incident sparked a Butt red card, the United midfielder reacting to Wises challenge. Often finding himself in on-field battles, Wise was no stranger to suspension, missing 15 games of the 1998/99 season. The combative midfielder fell just short of the 500 appearances mark, but will be remembered as a Blues favourite nonetheless. Only John Terry has won more as a Chelsea captain, a notable feat when considering Wises era preceded Abramovichs big-spending.
An admiration for the arrogant personalities in football. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Diego Simeone, even Joey Barton. If you were to ask who I'd rather have in my team, Messi or Ronaldo? The latter.
