9. No Excuses
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kskr90fDzL4 It is a cliché in boxing for a fighter to say they have prepared well and are in the best shape of their life before a fight, but both Carl Froch and George Groves have made valid reasons why no stone has been left unturned in their preparation and will both be at their best on Saturday night. Both come into the rematch knowing first-hand what the other will bring to the fight, and they've worked towards dealing with that. Froch's excuse for his career worst performance last November was that he took Groves lightly, wrongly judging that after consecutive main event PPV fights against former world champions Groves was not on the same level as his previous opponents such as, Kessler, Ward or Bute. Prior to the first fight Groves never faced a top ten ranked opponent or involved in a world title fight, and in Froch's argument it was going from cruising in a Ferrari, to driving a Ford Fiesta. One of his adjustments for the rematch has been spending weekdays in Sheffield, where trainer Rob McCracken is based with the GB amateurs. George Groves also has no excuses leading up to Saturday's fight: after splitting with trainer Adam Booth over financial issues, new trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick only had limited weeks to work with his new charge, and time spent long enough with a trainer is time well spent. Take Amir Khan working with Virgil Hunter: after 12 months of working together Khan looked flawless against Luis Collazo in May, putting Collazo down three times in the bout, compared to last April when Khan looked extremely poor against Diaz when he was put down once again.
