10 Huge Boxing Upsets Nobody Expected To See

8. Carl Froch Defeats Lucian Bute

Nottingham's darling and fan favourite Carl Froch cemented himself as one of the true draws in boxing when he took the undefeated Bute to the cleaners in 2012.

Bute came into the fight without a single blemish on his record, with Froch widely expected to put up a good fight but ultimately fall short against the skilful Romanian.

Froch wasn't to be denied, however, and against all the odds, produced a stunning display of punching power and heart to catch Bute off guard.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for Bute as early as the second round, but he hung in there until the fifth when a barrage of shots from the Englishman saw him take the TKO victory.

It was a moment to savour not only for English boxing but for Froch, with the emotion of the victory plain as day for everyone to see.

The fight propelled Froch into the worldwide spotlight where he stayed right up until his stunning knockout win over George Groves in 2014.
