10 Insane Football Punishments You Won't Believe
3. Huddersfield's Paddy Power Stunt
Though it may come as a surprise for readers who do not spend their valuable time fawning over football kits, the shirts worn during the 90 minutes are actually strictly regulated by the FA based on what can and can not be included.
So, when Huddersfield revealed that their new kit would be adorned by a gargantuan sash-like sponsorship for betting giant Paddy Power, purists were enraged. The club even made the mistake of donning the tacky tops during a pre-season friendly with Rochdale. While Paddy Power would later explain that the jersey was little more than a one-off to drive up publicity for its Save Our Shirt campaign, and that the actual home kit for the coming season would not feature a sponsor, the sport's governing body was less than amused.
The FA handed the club a £50,000 fine for the largely innocuous stunt, leading to criticism from fans who pointed to the fact that Millwall had been fined just £10,000 over racist chanting from fans just months earlier.
