10 Insane Football Punishments You Won't Believe

2. Dean Windass Picks Up Three Red Cards In One Game

Though he may not have looked like an elite athlete on first glance, Dean Windass was a serviceable striker who became an icon in his native Hull for scoring a picture-perfect volley in the 2008 Play-Off Final to fire the club into the Premier League for the first time.

However, Windass was also prone to wearing his heart on his sleeve, and could let his emotions get the better of him, which became clear during a stint at Aberdeen in the mid-'90s.

During a game against Dundee United, Windass saw red (both literally and figuratively) after committing two bookable offences but he wasn't done there. Dissent towards referee Stuart Dougal would see the former Bradford City forward pick up the equivalent of another red card, before a strop involving the corner flag as he left the pitch resulted in a third. Aberdeen boss Roy Aitken was sacked following the game, and Windass was handed a six-match ban.

Sometimes it's just better to keep your mouth shut...
