10 Lessons Learned From UFC 177

5. UFC 177 Will Be Lucky To Break 100,000 Buys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bFmDoB-FqY You're not selling a fight when you market a fighter as being best known as "Nick Diaz's training partner" - yet that's what the UFC did Yancy Mederios Saturday night. Really? Yes, they went on to mention that he submitted Leonard Garcia, but the UFC should have done a much better job setting this fight up for fans, especially given it was opening the card. This sort of poor marketing, along with a brutal co-main event with little relevancy to its division, meant that when the main event went down in flames, there was nothing left to interest potential customers. Casual fans will tune out of this one in droves, and the UFC will be lucky to surpass 100,000 buys, the same situation they had back at UFC 174 - and believe it or not, that event had a better card, with names like Ryan Bader and Andrei Arlovski.
