10 Major Football Transfers That Could Still Happen This Summer

2. James Rodriguez - Real Madrid To Atletico Madrid

Upon being one of the stars of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez made the big-money move from Monaco to Real Madrid and was expected to set La Liga on fire.

For whatever reason, it just didn't click for Rodriguez at the Bernabeu - as shown by him spending the past two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich.

Now back at Los Blancos, the Colombia international is seemingly surplus to requirements as Zinedine Zidane looks to offload some big name players as he seeks to raise transfer funds. While Gareth Bale and Isco are two stars Real are looking to ship out, so too is James Rodriguez.

One team to have already fluttered their eyes at James are Real's city rivals, Atletico Madrid.

Of course, the sticking point here is that Real and Atletico are rivals who can't stand each other. The thing is, Real Madrid are desperate to raise funds and view James as dead weight - to the extent that they could do that rare thing of allowing somebody to move from Real to Atleti.

For Atletico Madrid, if Diego Simeone could somehow get the best out of James Rodriguez, Atleti would have one of the best players in the world on their hands. That, of course, is a big "if" though.
