4. Julio Baptista vs Liverpool - January 2007
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A1m85eiwMY Arriving in north London with the tagline 'The Beast', big things were expected of the Real Madrid loanee striker during the 06/07 season. However, despite his efforts, it just didn't happen for him at the Emirates Stadium, as he struggled to adapt to the frantic pace of the Premier League. While he toiled languidly in the Premier League, however, an interesting statistic shows how he managed to score more in a League Cup game at Anfield than he did all season in the league. With just three Premier League goals to his name, Baptista's inner beast suddenly awoke for 90 minutes during the quarter-final clash, as he ran rampant in a four-goal scoring spree. After Jeremie Aliadiere had poked the visitors in front, before Robbie Fowler turned in a low cross after half an hour to level matters. However, ten minutes later, the Brazilian pinged a sensational 25 yard free-kick into the bottom corner, before Alex Song headed a third before the break. Seconds later, there was time for Baptista to grab his second to leave Anfield utterly shell-shocked as the Gunners left the pitch at half-time 4-1 up. The chance for a glorious hat-trick looked to have been wasted when the former Sevilla striker's penalty was saved after the break by Jerzy Dudek, but it was merely prolonging the inevitable, as the leaky Liverpool defence were undone again. The hat-trick was sealed on the hour mark as Baptista rifled home a 25 yarder, but to their credit, Anfield kept its' voice, and were rewarded for their faith when Steven Gerrard buried a sumptuous volley minutes later followed by a Sami Hyypia header. Four minutes later, however, Liverpool's embarrassment was compounded as Baptista arrived late in the box once more to sweep home an incredible sixth goal, and his fourth of the night. More goals in one night at Anfield than in 24 league games. Must just have eaten his Weetabix that morning.
