"ARBEIT!" Steffen Freund was slightly past his prime when he joined Spurs in 1998 - and he wasn't exactly a great performer for the club during his five year spell at White Hart Lane - but his unquestionable on-pitch work ethic (which garnered the legendary cries of "ARBEIT!" from the crowds - arbeit meaning "hard work" in German) made him a legend in the eyes of the fans. Freund played the full 90 minutes of Spurs' 1999 League Cup victory against Leicester City - a club he would later go on to play for after leaving White Hart Lane to join Kaiserslautern in 2003. Since 2012, Freund has been a part of Spurs' backroom staff - assuming the assistant manager role, before being promoted to International Technical Coordinator in August of 2014. Such was the charm of the "arbeit" shouts, they spawned a feature on popular football show "Soccer AM", in which an "ARBEIT! Of The Week" would show a player missing a tackle, but working hard to win the ball back in true Freund style.
