Tying Guardado's record of 145 Mexican caps is 39-year-old Rafael Márquez, who also happens to be one of the oldest players set to attend the World Cup. Regarded as one of the greatest Mexican defenders of all time, Márquez is appearing at his fifth World Cup, having captained his country at the last four editions of the tournament.

Interestingly, Márquez actually retired from club football at the end of the latest season, which he spent with boyhood club Atlas. Mexico's World Cup games will be the last few times he ever steps foot on a football pitch as a professional player, and Márquez will be eager to leave a lasting impression on the tournament.

He's scored 18 goals for Mexico over the years, proving to be a highly agile and elegant defender, capable of carrying the ball up the pitch and contributing to attacking moves, while also coming under fire for losing his cool every now and then. Despite any minor flaws in his game, Márquez is a Mexican legend and deserves to end his career on the highest possible note this summer.
