10 Most Devastating Batting Performances In Cricket World Cup History

8. Clive Lloyd: 102 Versus Australia, 1975

The first ever century in a World Cup Final, Clive Lloyd's effort versus the Aussies at Lord's in 1975 may not seem that impressive but in the days of 60 over ODIs and considerably slower scoring, it definitely was. Lloyd scored his runs from 85 balls, hitting two sixes as the West Indians posted 291-8 against Ian Chappell's men. To put the knock into context, Rohan Kanhai was the only other West Indian batsmen to reach a half-century - he scored 55 from 105 balls - and to make Lloyd's effort all the more impressive, he scored at more than a run-a-ball versus the bowling of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson. Australia were dismissed for 274 after a spirited knock of 62 from captain Chappell and a near heroic last wicket partnership of 41 between Thompson and Lillee. Lloyd was named man-of-the-match and the West Indies were crowned the first ever Cricket World Cup winners.
