The mighty Thomas Gravesen aside, Everton have never had the best of luck with Danish imports. Nobody was on David Moyes's case too much over the questionable signing of Lars Jacobsen on a free transfer, but paying £5 million to Udinese for his compatriot Per Kroldrup several years earlier is harder to justify.

Kroldrup solitary Premier League appearance during a 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa goes down as one of the most expensive in the history of the club, and the defender's name frequently crops up during discussion on the topic of worst. Signing. Ever.

In fairness to the Dane, half of his brief Everton career was marred by injuries, with groin surgery delaying his debut by more than six months, but the player himself admitted that he never got a handle on the physical aspects of the game in England.

Kroldrup remained in Italy for several seasons and enjoyed success at Fiorentina, including Champions League qualification. A short stint with Pescara followed before he saw out his career in Portugual with Olhanense.
