10 Most Ferocious Boxing Rivalries

7. Roberto Duran vs. 'Sugar' Ray Leonard

Firstly, if you haven't checked out the ESPN: 30 for 30 series and you're a general sports fan then you need it in your life. It's probably the best series of sports documentaries to have ever been produced. However, if you have seen or heard of the ESPN: 30 for 30 series then you may have come across the boxing documentary No Mas. Detailing the two epic showdowns between Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran, it breaks down the magnificent, breathtaking bouts between the two boxing legends for those who didn't grow up on pugilism. The two met, originally, in 1980 in Montreal, Canada at a time where Leonard was at the height of his powers. Many were impressed by Duran and his rough-and-rugged style of boxing, but most believed the class of Leonard would easily subdue the Panamanian boxer with superior technique. However, Leonard came undone due to Duran's constant pressure and sheer hunger for victory. Leonard nearly retired after the fight due to the disappointment in his performance. However, instead of giving up, he demanded a quick rematch against Duran who seemed to be living like a king after his victory over the American. This came back to haunt him as Leonard turned it on in their second bout, causing Duran to allegedly say to the referee "No mas...no mas", which means "no more" for those who aren't bilingual. It became a phrase that would haunt him for years and he never quite recovered from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oQX7lRLv6A
