10 Most Memorable Rangers Wins Over Celtic

4. 3-2 Scottish Cup Final (1973)

Unthinkably, for being Scotland's most successful club and one of the biggest club sides in the entire world, Glasgow Rangers hadn't won a domestic trophy for 7 years by the time the 1973 Scottish Cup Final was contested in front of an incredible 122,714 crowd at Hampden Park in Glasgow on the 5th May. The previous year, Rangers had won the European Cup Winners Cup, but fans wanted proof that the Gers could challenge at home too. Celtic had won their 8th Scottish League Title in a row in season 1972-1973, meaning all the Gers could do was stop them from lifting the Scottish Cup too. The likes of Kenny Dalglish turned out for Celtic, and Derek Johnstone for Rangers, but it was perhaps the most unlikely source on the entire park who would come up trumps and secure the win for his side. Tom Forsyth was not a player renowned for finding the back of the net on a regular basis. In fact, the goofy defender only scored twice during a decade spell with Rangers, but it was his goal during this Scottish Cup Final that fans remember. Scuffing the ball over the line with his studs, Forsyth helped Rangers create history, and the roar from Hampden could apparently be heard all over the South Side of Glasgow.
