10 Most Painful UFC Submissions

4. Armbar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WGUw26kVF8 Almost certainly the most traditional submission move in judoka and now in the UFC; of course most popularised by the undefeated women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. This textbook grapple is unleashed across many weight divisions and has been engaged in a variety of different canvas assaults but the results are always the same: earth-shattering pain. The fighter exercising the armbar grabs hold of the opponent's arm and extends the legs across the chest for leverage. From here, the thigh or hip is engaged to raise the elbow which hyperextends the joint, sending immeasurable agony through the body. Failing to tap when caught in an armbar can result in horrible blow-outs, dislocations and serious breaks. Rousey absolutely destroyed Miesha Tate's arm with the move back in Strikeforce and again Frank Mir locked in a submission that desperately injured his challenger when he broke Tim Sylvia's arm. Many UFC coaches train heavily in armbar defence, particularly in the female divisions so break-outs are more common now, but when a mean one sinks in, the only way to stop the pain is to slap that ground hard.
