Newcastle United: 2006-07 League Appearances: 26 League Goals: 3 He is certainly not the most-skilful player ever to grace the field at St James' Park, but Antoine Sibierski played a key role during the 2006-07 season - and that is often forgotten. The French midfielder arrived on a free transfer in the summer of 2006, just minutes before the window shut, and it did not take him long to find the net in a black-and-white shirt - with Sibierski scoring in the UEFA Cup first round against Levadia. It is for his Premier League strikes against Portsmouth and Reading, as well as his four crucial goals in just seven European appearances for the Magpies, for which he should be best remembered though. Regularly deployed as a striker or as an attacking midfielder, just off Obafemi Martins, due to Michael Owen's long-term injuries, Sibierski was a crucial member of a Magpies side who were lacking in goals. His strikes proved valuable to the Magpies during that campaign - and the man affectionately known as "Sib The Sexist" (in homage to The Viz's "Sid The Sexist") now even calls himself a Newcastle fan.
