One of the oldest traditions in the NHL is the act of fans throwing their hats onto the ice when one of the home town skaters scores a hat-trick. In hockey, a hat-trick occurs when one player scores three goals in a single game. Fans may not have had time to get the hats off their heads in 1952, as Chicago Blackhawks’ player Bill Mosienko potted a hat-trick in just twenty-one seconds. In less than half a minute, Mosienko turned a 6-2 deficit against the New York Rangers into a competitive 6-5. Chicago went on to win the contest.

If you read at the average rate of 250 words per minute, then Bill Mosienko could have scored three goals while you read the first paragraph of this page. During those record setting twenty-one seconds, Mosienko also managed to hit the post with a shot, so it could have easily been four goals in twenty-eight seconds.

The closest anyone has gotten to the record was Jean Beliveau in 1955, who managed to tally three goals in forty-four seconds - downright sluggish compared to Bill Mosienko.
