10 Past Rangers Signings That Seem Impossible Now

10. Steven Davis

In a sense, Steven Davis is exactly the kind of player that Rangers hope to capture under new boss Mark Warburton now. The industrious midfielder was rarely the most flashy, but he did have a profound impact upon joining the Ibrox club in 2008. Initially signed on loan from Fulham, Davis was later pocketed for approximately £3 million. He would later go on to become captain. Steve Davis isn't the kind of player fans really recognise as a star, but he is essential. Even in the current Southampton set-up, the Northern Irishman has flourished. His tackling and distribution from the middle of the park often goes unheralded, but it worked extremely well during his Rangers career. The problem is, with no European football over the past few years, Rangers haven't been able to attract decent players. Compared to many others on this list, Davis doesn't seem that special, but he did have an important role to play. It's his kind of player that the Gers have been missing, but it remains to be see whether or not Warburton can attract them to Glasgow. Besides, are the days of spending even £3 million gone? That's a big investment from a Scottish team now.
