10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man City
9. Wayne Bridge
Wayne Bridge was a promising young left-back who was unfortunate enough to play second-fiddle to better players for both club and country. After starting his career at Southampton he moved to Chelsea where he spent six years, making 87 league appearances. A bright English talent, Bridge made the move to Manchester in 2009 as part of a City spending spree. However, his promising career quickly became stagnant as he made just 42 league appearances for the Manchester club in four and a half seasons. City brought in Alexander Kolarov in 2010 and then Gael Clichy in 2011, meaning Bridge found himself out on loan for the majority of his City career, making total of three temporary moves before eventually moving to Reading in 2013. He never had the chance to achieve his full potential whilst at Manchester City due to the stiff level of competition for the left-back position and this was also synonymous with his international career. Although he did make 36 appearances for England, he was often forced to play out of position or play as understudy to Ashley Cole. Bridge could have achieved so much more for club and country had he only been given the chance, but such is the nature of top-flight football, he never truly got his foot in the door.
