10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man City
10. Robinho
Brazilian striker Robinho arrived at Manchester City on the same day that the club was taken over by Arab investors. He arrived for an inordinate sum of £32.5 million in 2008 from Real Madrid. After impressing as a young striker at Santos, scoring 44 league goals in three seasons, Robinho was hunted by Spanish giants Real Madrid. He continued to impress at the Bernabeu and in the process attracted the attention of Chelsea and City. City were able to snap him up right at the end of the summer transfer window due to their new-found wealth, even if it meant paying over the odds. Naturally, commanding such a fee, much was expected of the Brazilian but he never found his form in Manchester and ended up being the first of many flops in City's new era of wealth. He made just 53 appearances in all competitions for City, scoring 16 goals. Due to falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Tevez, Adebayor and Bellamy, Robinho found himself out on loan back at Santos for half of the 2010 season. At the end of that season he signed for AC Milan for a fee of around £15 million, marking a huge, yet unimportant, financial loss for Manchester City. It seemed that Robinho was never truly good enough to perform at the top level in the Premier League and he never truly settled in Manchester, making it clear that he would have preferred a move to Chelsea.
