10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Man Utd
7. Karel Poborsky
Karel Poborsky made his name at Euro 96 in England, playing in the same Czech Republic team as Pavel Nedved. He netted a sumptuous lob against Portugal at the tournament and after the Czechs were beaten in the final of the competition against Germany, Alex Ferguson picked up the 24-year-old winger for £3.5 million. It's often the case that buying off the back of a major tournament doesn't work out, and this was one of those times. While he didn't pull up any trees, Poborsky's United career wasn't helped by the emergence of a certain David Beckham, who made the right flank his own in the mid-late 90's. Poborsky only ended up spending around 18 months at Old Trafford before Beckham saw him off for good when Poborsky moved on to Benfica. Vitor Baia was the unlucky recipient of Poborsky's lob at the Euros, and he'd once again feel the heat of the Czech's skills when Poborsky produced a similar lob in a match against Porto while at Benfica. He had some excellent tricks, but didn't get the opportunity to show them off at Old Trafford too much.
