Despite having signed for Manchester City only 12 months prior, Sergio Aguero reportedly came close to joining Barcelona in 2012. The Catalan club made enquiries over Aguero's availability following his move from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and even held a series of "very serious" meetings with the forward's representatives, according to the Express. However, despite the Catalans making a serious (and maybe even illegal) approach for the Argentina marksman, nothing came of the reported discussions and Barca settled for Neymar instead, signing him from Santos in 2013. The arrival of the Brazilian at the Nou Camp nullified the Spanish giant's need for Aguero, and that is doubly true now that they have also brought in Luis Suarez from Liverpool to play alongside Lionel Messi. Nevertheless, Aguero was supposedly keen on a move to Catalonia, with a source close to the player saying: "He's crazy about Barca." Spanish tabloid El 9 Esportiu meanwhile reports that the striker misses Spain after leaving Atletico and believes he would one day fit in "perfectly" at Barcelona.
