He may have always had the look of someone pulled out of the 'ultra' section of the crowd and tossed between the posts, but over the years this barmy Pole has proven himself to be one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe. Establishing himself at Legia Warsaw, Celtic and Fiorentina prior to his Premier League move to Southampton in 2012, the Polish number one was almost deemed a safe pair of hands despite his madcap behaviour off the pitch. So, it was probably no surprise that former QPR boss Mark Hughes pressed the panic button after a 5-0 reversal at home to Swansea City on the opening day of the season two years ago, in which debutant Rob Green made a series of howlers.

Of course, the Brazilian goalkeeper was swiftly snapped up and handed a sizeable salary in a bid to stave off relegation. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how classy the goalkeeper is - if the leaky defence has more holes in it than the Titanic, then there is only one direction for the glossy, silver-coated club, and that is down.
