Some Manchester United supporters are still getting to grips with the fact that Robin van Persie does actually play for their club. Having been programmed to wishing the Dutchman to slice efforts wide of goal or thump shots into Row Z for the best part of a decade, the transition from hated Arsenal hit-man to revered Stretford End legend has been quite smooth for van Persie. Its not often that a player spends eight years at Arsenal, scores 30 Premier League goals one season and then signs for Manchester United two months later. The prolific Dutchman was on his way to statue status at the Emirates Stadium, having bagged 132 goals in 277 appearances but having decided that he needed a trophy to go with his efforts, he subsequently incurred the wrath of his former worshippers by handing in a transfer request. With both Mancunian clubs going head to head for his signature, it was ultimately Sir Alex Fergusons troops who won the battle, and he has scored 50 goals in 81 appearances for the Red Devils. The move was always going to raise eyebrows though, having spent nearly a decade learning under the tutelage of boss Arsene Wenger. Having spent a large part of his time with the Gunners on the treatment table, a lot of Arsenal supporters will certainly feel disappointed in him for leaving in such a hurry the second he broke the 20-goal barrier in the league.
