More than just a lock of dreads and a pair of glasses, combative Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids was the engine of the Juventus midfield of the late 90s and early 00s. Boasting a CV that included clubs of gargantuan proportions - Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and Inter Milan - there was certainly a sense of anticipation when it emerged that Spurs were in talks with the iconic midfielder upon his release from Inter in the summer of 2005. Davids was 32 at this stage, and past his best, but it still didnt dampen the excitement around White Hart Lane when it emerged that they had swooped to sign a player with 20 medals in his bedside drawer. I know everybody is very excited, he is a big player and the one we wanted. Edgar Davids is probably one of the most successful players of the last decade. He has played for five of the biggest clubs in Europe and he wants to play for Spurs. He would have a successful time in north London, establishing himself as a firm fan favourite due to his all-action displays, and helping the club to successive top five finishes, before moving back to Ajax in January 2007.
