10 Players Relieved They Didn't Sign For Chelsea

5. Neymar

If it wasn€™t for arguably the world€™s greatest ever footballer, the Premier League could have been marvelling at the jaw-dropping and delicious talents of Neymar. The 22 year old superstar who carries the weight of the Brazilian nation on his shoulders was moments from wrapping up a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge in 2010.
''It was August 23, 2010. My father and I had a meeting with president Luis Alvaro at the Santos headquarters inside the Vila Belmiro. Chelsea had made a huge transfer bid. Even Pele called me. Can you imagine how important I felt? The King of Football called me and asked me to stay. He reminded me of his entire career with Santos, his five world titles with the national team and the club, and all the recognition he received. It wasn۪t easy but it was the right decision for us. We did the right thing for our friends and my career.۪۪ - Neymar, June 2014.
The Brazilian forward has since found his way into Europe, only it hasn€™t been via Stamford Bridge. Tomorrow morning, the dazzling Brazilian will wake up to a training session with Luis Suarez, Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi. This season, he has established himself as a pivotal cog in the sultry Catalonian machine, forming a deadly partnership with Lionel Messi, and notching nine goals in as many appearances in the process.
''The thrill of being cheered when I entered the Nou Camp - it was hard not to cry. I۪ve never worried about being the best in the world. The best is already here and that۪s Messi. I۪m one of the luckiest men in the world to be able to play with him and it۪s an honour. I۪m very happy to be realising my life۪s dream.۪۪ - Neymar, June 2013.
These are not the words of a man pining for a move elsewhere.
