Italian midfielder Nicola Berti made a name for himself in Serie A with Parma, Fiorentina and, most emphatically, Inter Milan. Berti made 229 appearances for Inter, winning Serie A and winning three UEFA Cups - scoring in two of the finals in 1991 and 1994 - before signing for Spurs in 1998. He joined the Lilywhites as a 31-year-old when they were struggling in a relegation struggle and helped to lift them to a thirteenth place Premier League finish, making 21 league appearances and scoring three times, before departing for Spanish side Alaves just less than a year after arriving. Berti made 39 international appearances for Italy, scoring three times, and appeared at the World Cups in 1990 and 1994 - the latter of which he played in the final as Italy lost out to Brazil. His last club stint was with Northern Spirit in Australia, where he played in 2001 and 2002 before retiring.
