10 Players Who Could Be Axed For Newcastle's Summer Recruits
4. Yoan Gouffran
Gouffran arrived as part of the French Revolution of January 2013 but, after a strong start in a black-and-white shirt, has seen his impact when in the side fall drastically. In a season full of mediocrity, Gouffran's play on the pitch in 2014-15 almost perfectly represented the way the club seemed to be hurtling towards relegation - a lack of end-product backed up with precious little industry in order to help the side out. When fans are calling for Gabriel Obertan and Sammy Ameobi ahead of you, then you know there is a serious problem and yet this was where the ex-Bordeaux man found himself towards the end of last season. With the club's fans unimpressed, Gouffran needs to work hard and rediscover his form of late 2013 which saw him score in five consecutive games at St James' Park, a feat last achieved by Alan Shearer in 1997. The side now has a very strong candidate to play on the left of an attacking-midfield trio in Georginio Wijnaldum, while Frenchmen Obertan and Remy Cabella will also be sweating as to where they fit in now. McClaren has given Gouffran a chance in pre-season while the Dutch import gets up to speed but the Frenchman needs to win over hearts and minds again - and the only way he can do that is by reproducing the energetic performances that made him so popular initially.

University of Edinburgh graduate with a love of sport, in particular Newcastle United surprisingly enough. When I'm not shaking my head at Paul Dummett and Yoan Gouffran, I'm usually reading something or watching films of varying quality.
