There's an unwritten law that Marco Boogers must feature in any list that rates some of West Ham's worst-ever signings and we have no issue with slotting the Dutchman in at number four. The regret probably lies deeper with West Ham than it does with Boogers, but his whole career is overshadowed by his time in England. His record in Dutch football was respectable, but his time at West Ham got off to the worst possible start when he was red carded and suspended for four games for a shocking challenge on Manchester United defender Gary Neville. He did not make his return until November and made just one more substitute appearance after that. Upon returning to the Netherlands, Boogers recovered his career to some degree at FC Volendam and Dordrecht '90, but he will forever be known for his infamous spell with West Ham.
