Despite his Australian roots, Lucas Neill played his football in England from 1995 to 2010, enjoying successful periods at Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham. It was after his time at the Hammers, however, that his playing time began to take a hit. For the second successive season, Neill made 34 league appearances for West Ham, prompting the club to offer the full-back an extension to his contract after the end of the 2008-09 campaign. This was turned down by Neill, who eventually signed for Everton on a free transfer. Neill spent less than four months at Goodison Park before leaving for Galatasaray on an 18-month contract. He played regularly for the Turkish giants but he would be released at the end of his deal, spending the following three years moving between as many as six clubs.
