Unlike many other players who had represented Real Madrid's B-side in the second division but never earned senior call up, Felipe Luis was actually priced out of a deal by his then-parent club Rentistas.

He played almost the entirety of the 2005/06 season with the Castilla and was then denied a permanent move to the club due to exorbitant financial demands of the Brazilian outfit.

So he left for Deportivo La Coruna where Luis began his development, before becoming an instrumental figure under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

Barring the disappointing spell at Chelsea in 2014 which lasted just a season, Luis established himself as one of the best full-backs of his time with his tactical awareness and work ethics.

Last summer, he relocated to his home country of Brazil after signing a two-and-a-half year deal with Flamengo.
