10 Problems Steve McClaren Must Address At Newcastle

10. McClaren Must Deal With Transfers - Incoming

The first thing Newcastle fans want to see this summer from McClaren is an ability to recruit - and recruit well. Names such as Queens Park Rangers' Charlie Austin and Chelsea's Patrick Bamford have already been touted as potential incomings, and it is that sort of ambition that Magpies supporters really want to see. Supposedly McClaren has a £60 million "transfer war chest" to spend this summer, and if that is true then those significant funds must be spent wisely. Centre-backs, strikers, wingers and even a defensive-midfielder should be top of McClaren's shopping list. Hopefully McClaren's previous relationship with Graham Carr - who is believed to have been a major driving force behind the ex-England boss' appointment - will ensure that transfer recruits are targeted appropriately. Players such as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Remy Cabella were signed by Carr for previous boss Alan Pardew, but the ex-Magpies head coach simply didn't fancy them. The money must be better appropriated this summer so that McClaren has the squad at his disposal that he desires.
