10 Problems Steve McClaren Must Address At Newcastle

4. Sort Out Newcastle's Dire Set-Piece Record... Both Defensively And Offensively

Newcastle have been useless at set-pieces - both offensively and defensively - for a number of seasons now, and 2014-15 proved to be no different. Only Swansea City (six) netted from fewer than Newcastle - who were joint second-lowest set-piece scorers alongside Hull City, Burnley and Southampton with eight. Three of those goals came from free-kicks (all in-direct), four came from corners, and one came from the penalty spot. A paltry return from an entire season. However, if you look at the back as well and Newcastle have been atrocious at defending them for a long, long time too - with Swansea, who were appalling at set-pieces last season, even scoring for such scenarios in one match at St James' Park in April. McClaren must look to appoint a specialist set-piece coach to the backroom staff - or find another way of sorting out the problem - because it has been an issue for far too long now.
